Paper-based, capacitive touch pads.
Metallized paper is patterned to create touch pads of arrayed buttons that are sensitive to contact with both bare and gloved fingers. The paper-based keypad detects the change in capacitance associated with the touch of a finger to one of its buttons. Mounted on an alarmed cardboard box, the keypad requires the appropriate sequence of touches to disarm the system.
متن کاملBuilding Interactive Multi-touch Surfaces
Multi-touch interaction with computationally enhanced surfaces has received considerable attention in recent years. Hardware implementations of multitouch interaction such as Frustrated Total Internal Reflection (FTIR) and Diffused Illumination (DI) have allowed for the low cost development of surfaces. Although many of these technologies and associated applications have been presented in acade...
متن کاملMeasuring The Quality Of Natural Lighting In A Building With Double Skin Façade (Dsf)
Lately, a double skin façade (DSF) has been increasingly popular as an aesthetic and shading device. A façade with a secondary skin is employed in buildings to let natural light flow into the building without glare and heat. The purpose of this study is to examine the performance of secondary skin in buildings and to investigate the level of natural lighting in buildings that meets visual comfo...
متن کاملHidden Blue Hazard? LED Lighting and Retinal Damage in Rats
The Canadian government greeted 2014 with the first tier of its new energy-efficiency standards for light bulbs, which will effectively ban incandescent light bulbs by next year. But efficient lighting can have its own drawbacks. For instance, although devoid of the mercury used in compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), some white lightemitting diodes (LEDs) emit a wavelength of light associated wit...
متن کاملBlue babies and nitrate-contaminated well water.
The use of nitrate-contaminated drinking water to prepare infant formula is a well-known risk factor for infant methemoglobinemia. Affected infants develop a peculiar blue-gray skin color and may become irritable or lethargic, depending on the severity of their condition. The condition can progress rapidly to cause coma and death if it is not recognized and treated appropriately. Two cases of b...
